Cottonmouths have flat wide heads like a triangle. Cottonmouths are very heavy. They grow to be about 30 to 45 inches long. Inside a cottonmouths mouth is a pinkish white color. They usually have olive brown scales. Cottonmouths shed like all other lizards. Most poisonous snakes have two fangs but cottonmouths have four fangs. These fangs are folded back when not in use. When cottonmouths are on land they strike their prey then let go. But when under water they hold onto their prey so it can't swim away . Cottonmouths live in marshy places and sometimes on land. They live in Virginia and other parts of the southeastern United States. Cottonmouths lay eggs like all other lizards and are cold blooded.
